The Best Keurig K Cup Flavors
Keurig are quickly becoming one of the most popular brands on the market, and for good reason. The K Cup capsules on offer come in a vast variety of flavors, far more than are available through Nespresso compatible capsules. So there I was, ordering frantically on Amazon, full of excitement like I’d just booked a trip to Paris. Of course a trip to Paris is a joyous occasion, but it just cannot compete with a mammoth box of coffee pods delivered straight to my apartment…
As the mailman arrived, sheer ecstatic feelings ran through my body, I knew I would soon be relaxing with a tasty cup of Joe, or four. Yes, I know that my enthusiasm for coffee may seem a little intense, but we’ve all got to have a hobby! I tore open the gigantic package and was hit in the face with the most beautiful aroma. It was like every coffee shop had merged into one, been shrunk by Willy Wonka’s shrinking machine and sent to me in one glorious, fragrant package. Like some sort of connoisseur I decided to compile a list of my favorites, and useful information to share with coffee lovers like you. So, without further ado, let’s get stuck in!
Best K Cup Flavors
There are at least 200 different types of pod available, so I’ve narrowed it down for you, here are my favourites:
Green Mountain Pumpkin
Pumpkin is a very popular flavor and you often see it promoted a lot around halloween, it’s great to see it available all year round in a K cup. I do love it but it really does taste a lot better with a bit of sweetener and flavoured creamers. On its own it can be a little weak, but when you find your favourite additive combo then it’s definitely a winner.
- You can replicate a Pumpkin Spice Latte all year round
- Works well with added flavors like caramel creamer
- A great winter warmer or all rounder
- Does taste slightly artificial
- Needs a bit more sweetening/additives
- Could be improved with a little bit more nutmeg
This is a sweet coffee with a rich buttery taste and packed with natural flavors. It gives off a lovely aroma when brewing and is fantastic if you add marshmallows. I do really enjoy this but it does taste strangely peppery as a black coffee. If you add honey and cream to the mix, it really is heavenly.
- Much cheaper than other caramel coffees
- Lovely with a dash of honey
- Doesn’t taste artificial
- It has a slight peppery taste
- Not as good as a takeaway Starbucks coffee
- A bit on the salty side
Starbucks Cinnamon Dolce
Cinnamon works so well in coffee. The taste has hints of butter and brown sugar, I think it’s a perfect coffee to drink with lunch. This is a lovely flavor which would be great as a latte, the K Cups are great for convenience when you don’t want to be fussing around with syrups.
- Naturally creamy and flavorsome
- Perfect with a slice of cake
- Cinnamon tastes natural and not artificial
- Flavor is not as intense as Cinnamon Dolce syrup
- A little on the weak side
- Slightly on the expensive side
Roasters Keurig Escapes-Chai Latte
This one is actually a tea as opposed to a coffee but it’s glorious nonetheless, a true cultural experience! I’d recommend this drink if you’re looking for something different. It is a really special blend of black tea and spices that work fantastically together.
- It’s unique, like nothing else
- A lovely alternative to coffee
- Full of aromatic Indian flavors
- Not widely available
- More on the expensive side
- Not a lot of room for additives without spoiling the flavor
Hula Girl 100% Kona Coffee
This is a real treat for me, made from Kona coffee beans from Hawaii the smell is to die for. The taste is full and very smooth, this is a real exclusive blend. As it’s a little on the expensive side I would consider buying this as a treat as opposed to a regular all day coffee. It really is a coffee like no other and you do get what you pay for.
- Very unique made with 100% Kona beans
- Authentic Hawaiian flavor
- The perfect strength
- A little expensive
- Can sometimes taste earthy or bitter
- Works better as a black coffee
K Cup Variety Packs
Variety packs are a great way of sampling the many different K Cups that are available. They offer a real value for money and eliminate the worry of buying a large amount of something that you won’t like. There are loads of these variety packs available on Amazon and I often buy them to test new blends before committing to a larger order.
Reusable K Cup Filters
The great thing about Keurig machines is their reusable filters. The Yeti Coffee Co filters come in different sizes depending on your brewing needs, one cup filters for brewing a single cup and a larger filter for brewing multiple cups. These are a really cool concept and are much better than old paper filters. They seal perfectly due to their rubber seals and are pretty indestructible. You don’t have to worry about leaks which is great and unlike paper filters, you know that you’ll always have consistently quality coffee. The negative points I found with the filters are that although they are reusable, they won’t last forever. You may need to replace these every now and then if you want perfect coffee every time. They also do require a little bit of cleaning which although this is expected, can sometimes be a bit irritating. Although they are relatively cheap, replacing them often could get costly.
Keurig do offer single filters for a reasonable price and these are of better build quality, making them longer lasting. These filters seem to last up to a year if you take good care of them and produce great tasting coffee. Cleaning these is relatively simple and I found works best if you submerge the filter for a while in water to loosen any residue. Negative things I have found include: occasional leaking, sometimes the coffee can have a diluted taste due to the speed that the water is passed through the filter. It would probably be more robust if Keurig had made these out of metal.
Best Decaf K Cups
Green Mountain Coffee Decaf Breakfast Blend
This is a great decaf option, the flavor is mellow and fresh and is marketed as a breakfast blend without the morning caffeine hit. This can be pretty useful if you can’t live without a morning coffee but want to cut down on your caffeine intake. Overall, this is a really nice coffee but I think it’s better suited for an evening drink as opposed to breakfast one. It is 100% Arabica coffee, a light roast so it’s perfect for those preferring a lighter taste. If you’re a fan of it, Amazon do sell this blend in large quantities.
- It brews very well & creates a pleasing aroma
- The taste is not too strong or harsh like other breakfast blends I’ve tried
- A great taste without worrying about caffeine consumption, meaning you can drink it all day if you like
- It can sometimes taste slightly watered down
- I have tasted other breakfast blends with fuller flavors
- The taste isn’t as good as the caffeinated version of this blend
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Decaf
This is my personal favorite decaf, its rich flavor is smooth and not at all bitter. I often find richer tastes to have at least a hint of bitterness, this however offers full uninterrupted flavor. This is a coffee that does have the fullness of a caffeinated brew but is a little on the expensive side. However, it does work out much cheaper than if you were to buy this as a take away coffee from Krispy Kreme, especially when buying in bulk.
- No bitterness, even as a black coffee
- There’s no need for added sugar or sweetener
- Very versatile, a great morning or evening brew
- It’s a little on the expensive side
- The aroma given is pleasant but not strong
- Although the taste is rich, the coffee is a little thin
Buying K Cups in Bulk
I have found that buying in bulk is the best way to get hold of high grade coffee at a lower price. There are negatives to buying coffee in bulk regarding freshness, luckily the K Cups are well sealed to combat this.
As mentioned earlier, I’d recommend a sample pack before bulk buying to ensure satisfaction. Amazon is a great place to buy large quantities as they do lower the price considerably to allow you to save money when buying bigger packs. Often buying in bulk can save you close to 50% of what you would pay when buying in smaller quantities.
To conclude, Keurig have truly revolutionized brewing coffee at home. It has become much cheaper to produce high quality coffee tasting almost identical to take away coffee from a coffee shop. The cost of pods, filters and machines can often seem costly but if you are an avid coffee drinker and you resist buying take away coffees, your investment will pay off in the long run.
For the first time ever we are offered the opportunity to become true home baristas. The vast range of K Cups means that you will always find something you like and it’s great that these are available in variety packs. I am a huge fan of the filters and although they do have their setbacks, they are a a groundbreaking invention which is key to replicating that coffee shop taste.
Bulk buying to me is the best way save money, whilst also ensuring that you’ll never run out of coffee, just make sure you choose blends that you like!
