Our favourite is the Pixie but as we will discusss, there is not a lot in it but price.see pricing

Quality and Design – Nespresso Citiz vs Pixie

Both machines have a classic, stylish look which will go well in any kitchen, office or other location. They’re both constructed with durable ABS plastic construction and Thermoblock stainless-steel heating elements. Thermoblock technology guarantees precise temperature control.

The Pixie is available in the colors Titan and Electronic Titan. These are both a polished gray color. The Citiz is available in black only.

These units both have a similar look. Slim and vertical with a curved top, each unit has removable water tank. The Citiz is the bigger of the two. Dimensions for the Citiz are 14 3/4″ by 5” by 11” high. The Pixie is a more compact 12 3/4″ by 4 3/4″ by 9 3/4″. The Citiz weighs 10 pounds and the Pixie weight six pounds and ten ounces.

The Citiz has a large water tank which holds 34 fluid ounces. The Pixie holds a smaller, but still respectable, amount of water: 24 fluid ounces. Both water tanks are non-magnetized.

Our Verdict on Quality and Design

We’re calling this one a draw. These two units have both been a part of the Nespresso line for quite a while. They’re time-tested, durable and high quality. As far as their aesthetics, they both have a timeless, subtle look. The Citiz is slightly thinner than the Pixie, and the units come in different colors.

But there’s no significant difference in overall quality. Both are well-made products which include full warranties and customer service support. So we’re really left to judge these two on aesthetics here, and that’s just a matter of personal taste. We think they both look pretty good!

DRAW

Functionality – Nespresso Citiz vs Pixie

These are Nespresso coffee capsule machines. You simply insert the capsule and the machine does the rest, easily brewing at least 10 cups of coffee from one tank of water. The Pixie comes with 16 capsules. Ten capsules are included with the Citiz.

Both units have a 19-bat pressure pump. This draws the maximum amount of flavor from the capsules. Both machines can easily make espressos, lungos and even regular coffee.

The Pixie has two buttons. You can select either a one, two or three ounce pour. The Citiz also has two buttons. These rubber buttons need to be pressed, as opposed to digital buttons which only need to be touched. The two buttons on the Citiz are for single shot and double shot. You can map the amount of water added to each capsule to create coffee drinks of whatever strength you prefer.

Both the Pixie and the Citiz have adjustable clearance space. You can flip up the drip tray to accommodate larger cup sizes. This is great for latte, cappuccinos, iced drinks and more.

The Pixie heats up and is ready to brew in about 25 to 30 seconds. In our tests, the Citiz warms up in about the same time frame. Both shut off automatically after nine minutes.

Our Verdict on Functionality

Again, when we compare Nespresso machines, there isn’t really a clear winner here. The Citiz and the Pixie share a ton of features. The main difference here is the size of the water tank. You can make more cups quicker with the Citiz. If volume is your main concern, you’ll want to go with the Citiz.

NESPRESSO CITIZ

Value – Nespresso Citiz vs Pixie

Both units retail for around the same $$$’s, with the Citiz typically just a bit more than the Pixie. The purchase of Nespresso unit of any type includes access to Nespresso Club Services. Club members can access services by phone, web or even in person at a Nespresso boutique. Services available include personalize advice and technical support from Nespresso specialists. You can also order Nespresso capsules 24/7.

Our Verdict on Value

We’re going to go with Citiz here. This is because the prices are so close but the Citiz has a larger water tank. So in the long run you’re getting more coffee quicker. But this is a really specific metric we’re using just for the purposes of Nespresso comparison. In the real world, both of these units are a great value.

NESPRESSO CITIZ

Our Recommendation

When looking to compare the Nespresso Pixie vs Citiz, there’s not a ton of differences to focus in on. In fact, there are a ton of similarities – but that’s a good thing. The Pixie and the Citiz are both considered classic single cup espresso machines. They’re each:

  • Simple to maintain and clean
  • Quick to warm up and brew
  • Aesthetically pleasing with a classic design
  • Great value
  • Backed by reliable customer support

So, what’s the difference?

The main difference is the water capacity and the country where the unit is built. Nespresso is a Swiss company. Their Pixie is made directly in Switzerland. The Citiz is made in China, although under Nespresso control and supervision. Still, many customers might feel more comfortable with a product manufactured closer to the Nespresso HQ.

Another main difference is the size of the water tank. You can brew more single cups faster with the Citiz, because it has a larger tank. This is probably not important to a household. But it might be a valuable for a busy office.

Our Recommendation

NESPRESSO PIXIE

For home use, we like the Pixie. This is a tried-and-true Nespresso machine made directly by Nespresso craftsmen. And at a very reasonable price, too. The Citiz is also a great machine, but just a bit more expensive. If you need a machine which can serve a lot of people reasonably quickly, the Citiz does have a larger water reservoir. Aside from an office-type situation, however, the Pixie is the all-around better buy. You really can’t go wrong with the Pixie.
