Best Espresso Machine Under 200 Dollars

Best Espresso Machine Under 200 Dollars

No matter if you are looking for a home espresso machine for your home office or your kitchen there are a lot in the under $200 price range to choose from. So is the best espresso machine under 200 bucks?

Having a great machine if you enjoy coffee throughout the day is essential. After all, coffee helps give you the extra energy to be more productive and alert all day long. The health benefits of drinking coffee are many according to the experts. In a previous post, I mentioned the antioxidant effects and the benefits for your liver.

There are many options out there so it can be hard to sort through what is the best home espresso machine for your needs. You don’t have to pay a lot to get a full-featured machine that provides years of great service. Bargain espresso machines are widely available and have come a long way over the last few years. Here are my thoughts on the Delonghi Bar32 vs. Nespresso Pixie vs. Delonghi ECP3630, three of my top picks when looking for a great espresso maker under $200.

Philips 3200 Series Fully Automatic Espresso Machine Review

This machine looks like it could be a professional coffee shop with it’s all stainless steel body and cup warmer. This means you can warm cups up ahead of time, so your coffee doesn’t cool off too quickly to enjoy properly.

This is a serious machine for the home espresso lover. You can switch between using your own ground coffee and the convenience of pre-filled coffee pods. I know a lot of espresso lovers that do this because sometimes they just want a quick cup without having to grind their own beans or load the filter themselves.

A stainless steel boiler means this machine is built to last. I expect that anyone that buys this will be using it for a long time even with heavy use. Of course, stainless steel also means you will have to keep it wiped down well if you want to keep it looking sharp. At the same time, stainless will match any color scheme in a home, so you don’t have to worry about it looking odd. If anyone asks what you paid for it, they will be surprised that you got a machine that looks that good for such a low price.

Another feature that is to love about this machine is that it is so multipurpose. The unique Pannarello Steam Wand makes it possible to heat water quickly for a great cup of tea, mate, hot chocolate, and more. This makes the Poemia a great choice for homes because it has something to offer everyone in the household regardless of how much they like coffee.

It is good to know that Philips tests each individual coffee maker before they ship it out so the likelihood of getting a faulty machine for your initial purchase is very small indeed. It is hard to find a company that takes customer service and concern this seriously.

Despite all the features offered by the Poemia, it is extremely efficient. The warming of the cups is heat that would come off the boiler anyway, so you are not burning a lot of extra energy or affecting the flavor of your coffee.

Nespresso Pixie Espresso Machine Review

I love the look of this coffee maker. The metal and color patterns available lends it a cool art deco vibe that would look great in the home of anyone that wants an espresso machine with a strong sense of style. This is Nespresso’s fastest and smallest machine.

The compact size makes this a great choice for college students that want to save money on coffee purchases or the apartment dweller dealing with a small kitchen. Of course, the compact size means that the water tank for the Pixie is only 24 ounces versus the 34 ounce capacity of the Bar32. For many people, the size won’t make much of a difference because you can still get close to three generous sized cups of espresso with a single fill up.

The Pixie heats up within 25 seconds but will only make one cup at a time so it might not be the best option for those that live with others that enjoy espresso and lack a bit of patience. The fast heat up time might be able to make up for the single cup function in some homes.

For those that love the convenience of a capsule machine, the Pixie could be the espresso maker of your dreams. This machine is designed just to be used with Nespresso products, similar to a Keurig machine. If you like to get your own beans and grind them, you can purchase reusable pods for use with the machine.
The downside is that there is no frother included. A separate milk frother called the Aerocchino that works with the touch of a button can be purchased from Nespresso for those that can’t live without one. The frother is smaller than a pint jar and does an amazing job.

This is a great machine for those that want to extract the maximum amount of flavor from their daily grind since it has a 19 bar pressure rating compared to 15 bar pressure that is fairly standard in coffee makers in this price range.

Did I mention the superb storage capacity of this machine? Despite its compact design, the storage drawer will hold an amazing 50 capsules so you can easily access a capsule at any time. The small size also doesn’t stop you from using any size cup you want due to the adjustable tray.

The Pixie gets high ratings from customers with the biggest complaint being the higher cost of the prefilled coffee pods compared to other machines. This should not be a factor if you want a great little lightweight espresso machine because you can just keep a lot of reusable pods around that you fill yourself every once in a while. If you are just an occasional espresso drinker, then you may just want to spend the money on the prefilled pods.

De’Longhi Bar Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Machine Review

This machine looks like it is a real professional machine despite the modest price tag. It makes two cups at a time that is nice if you like to be able to offer guests a cup or regularly drink coffee with someone else.

The fact that this machine is so easy to clean and offers filter storage makes it a good choice for busy people that want to save time and space in the kitchen or office. The 15 bar pressure control means that coffee tastes like it came from the coffee house every time.

I drink a lot of coffee and like to share with friends, so it makes me happy that the ECP3630 has a large water tank capacity of 37 ounces. This makes it possible to make four 8 ounce lattes between fill ups. When I tested this machine, I was amazed at how easy it is to use.

The Delonghi ECP3630 is made of stainless steel for the most part so it should hold up well over the years. A quick wipe down each day may be in order if you want to keep it looking polished. The price is great for a full stainless maker.

For those that like to make a large travel mug of coffee at once to take with them throughout the day, the Delonghi is fantastic! The easily adjustable drip trap makes it easy to use almost any size mug or travel cup. This fixes one of the problems I have had with small machines in the past.

A full size attached frother makes it easy to create complex coffee drinks. Since I am a coffee nut, I like the ability to easily get creative with my espresso machine. A touch of vanilla and cherry flavor in the frother makes for an interesting cup. A rich chocolate mocha is an indulgence that I hope to never give up.

This is a good machine for those that want a heavy duty machine that will last and allows them to customize their cup using the dial control. This means you can adjust cup size and pressure for a cup that suits your tastes entirely.

Best espresso machines under 200 bucks? And the winner is…
It is hard to choose the best one from these three amazing machines. If you live by yourself or want a small machine that is convenient, then the Pixie has a lot to offer. Personally I would have to go with the DeLonghi because I like to enjoy coffee with others and like to have a built in frother attachment. I also like to drink a lot of coffee, so a machine with a 37-ounce water tank is highly appealing to me.
