Jura vs Delonghi Coffee Machines

When it comes to choosing between two quality brands such as Jura vs. Delonghi, it is important to do a side by side comparison of other essential features. If the cost is a big factor then this of course is going to be at the forefront of the decision-making process. If not you may think more about features and functionality. I’ve tried all of these machines and more expensive does not necessarily mean a better machine!

My personal favorite is found clicking here (don’t click this link if you want to read the whole post first!)

The machines we are comparing all have one feature in common in that they make a single cup of coffee. This is not coffee machines for those that need a lot of quantity. The quality of the brew you get is well worth the time it takes to brew a delicious single cup.

Jura machines are high quality and built to last a lifetime, but the cost is somewhat prohibitive for all but the most enthusiastic coffee connoisseurs. If you are serious about coffee, it is a good idea to consider a high-end upgrade. Over time the enjoyment you get and the fact that you won’t have to deal with purchasing a lot of coffee makers over time means a quality coffee machine could very well pay for itself in a short amount of time, especially if you have multiple coffee drinkers in your household.

Jura Ena Micro 1

This sleek and seductive looking little number have a lot to offer coffee lovers. This outstanding machine easily takes your favorite bean, grinds it, and delivers the ideal cup of brew in your choice of three sizes. Since you can store beans in it, you can just add water to a perfect brew. Measuring 9 x 12.7 x 17.5 inches. (W x H x D), this is a good choice for students and those that move often and want fantastic coffee. At 19.4 pounds this is not a light machine. However this is largely due to the durability of the materials it is made from.

One thing to love about this machine is the bean preservation cover that will keep your choice and select beans wonderfully fresh and vibrant. The Jura Ena is constructed in Portugal of high-quality components built to hold up to the most discerning coffee fanatics.

The automatic energy saving mode means that you can get a cup fast but not waste power keeping water hotter than it needs to be. The energy saving mode is automatic, so you don’t have to worry about anything at all. The preheating mode ensures a lightning fast cup when you need it.

Of course, if you are a fan of frothy coffee drinks then you may find the Jura lacking. This could easily be solved by purchasing a separate frother to use as needed. For when you just want a great cup, it is hard to find a better coffee maker. Other coffee lovers say that the Jura holds up well over time and is ideal for those that don’t want a coffee maker taking up too much valuable counter space.

Our Verdict

The Jura Ena Micro 1 is a reliable choice for those that like exceptional cups of coffee from bean to brew. Since it is so easy to use, the maker would be suitable for apartments and smaller living spaces. Those with a private office should strongly consider this addition to their work day.

Jura Ena 9 One-Touch

For those that love a coffeemaker with a lot of bells and whistles, there is the Jura 9 One-Touch. At $1,340 it is not as affordable as the Jura 1 but you are getting a lot more opportunities to create the perfect custom brew each and every time. At 9 x 17.5 x 14 inches and 20 lbs in weight, Jura has packed this machine with a lot of features while coming in at almost the same weight as the Jura Ena 9.

The dual spout is adjustable, so you can brew into two cups at once with a height of 3-5 inches. No more buying special coffee cups just because you switched machines or like taller cups. The spout has two pipe systems, so you are never mixing coffee and milk together in the same tube.

A high quality multi-conical grinder makes sure beans are ground to perfection for every delicious cup. Those that know coffee are well aware that conical grinders are known for being long lasting and ideal for releasing aroma and flavor from your special coffee beans.

The Jura 9 is convenient because the buttons that allow for an abundance of coffee choices are so well arranged that you don’t have to learn a lot to use this machine right out of the box. With the addition of beans and water and the touch of a button, you can experience quality cappuccinos or latte macchiatos. The aroma boost function will extract the maximum amount of flavor from your beans when you want a strong cup to get through a work day.

The 15 bar pressure pump is a good choice for getting the great taste of a fancy barista coffee bar in the comfort of your home or office.

Customer reviews indicate that the Jura 9 is well worth the investment with one of the only downsides being that the water tank only holds enough to make 4-6 coffee drinks. Other than that you can easily produce fancy coffee drinks with the mere touch of a button.

Our Verdict

At this price point, you should expect a lot out of a coffeemaker. The abundance of features this machine offers could fill an entire post just by itself. Those that want to bring the coffee bar feel to their living or work space will be pleased with this machine. While customers mentioned the water tank being only enough for 4-6 drinks, it is important to keep in mind that this is a compact machine that even those in small apartments can use to make professional quality coffee.

The tank is large enough that two coffee drinkers in a home would be able to enjoy this machine without feeling like it was taking too long for everyone to get their coffee throughout the day.

DeLonghi EC860 Espresso Maker

First of all, this model of DeLonghi is stainless steel and affordable. Those that want a coffee maker that is far better than the standard home model but are not able to commit to a machine in the upper price range should look to the EC860.

At 10.5×12.2×12 inches and a mere 15.4 pounds, this little gem of a coffee maker would be a good gift for any coffee lover, especially students and those living in smaller living arrangements. The weight means you can easily move this machine to exactly where you want it with little fuss. The size also makes it ideal for even small office spaces.

The EC860 features a brew system that allows you to use your choice of ground espresso or the popular ESE pods. The automatic cappuccino function provides just the right amount of foam for your favorite coffee drinks.

One disadvantage of this machine is that it does not have a built in grinder so unless you are buying pre-ground coffee you are going to need to buy a separate grinder which should be considering when determining the overall value. You can get a cheap coffee grinder for $20, but a quality grinder is going to be substantially more.

The drip tray makes clean up easy and keeps your counter or desk top from getting stained or damaged. Customers are impressed with how fast the machine heats up. When you are busy and want a cup, you don’t want to be waiting for your coffee pot to kick on. The cappuccino function allows for a 10 oz coffee cup to be filled with the touch of a button.

Our Verdict

This is a good entry level machine but lacks the features and attention to detail that more expensive machines have. The lack of a built-in coffee grinder is going to mean more work and more counter space being used then those with built in grinders. Having a separate grinder often leads to more clean up time and cheaper grinders can be very loud in an office or home.

Cleaning this machine is more time consuming as well. That being said, this model of DeLonghi does provide a quality cup of coffee. It is a quiet machine for offices or small spaces. The cup height max is about 4 inches, so this is something to consider.

DeLonghi ESAM3300 Magnifica Super-Automatic Espresso Machine

At more than double the cost of the EC860, the DeLonghi Magnifica offers service and style that is much closer to that of the Jura Ena series machines. The stylish design is mostly stainless steel and offers pro-grade coffee preparation. If you drink a lot of quality coffee drinks, it will not take long for this maker to pay for itself.
We love the generous 60-ounce water reservoir, so you don’t have to spend a lot of time refilling your machine throughout the day. The bean storage sports enough room for 7 ounces of beans so you can go a while between refills.

At just over 28 pounds this coffee machine is a bit hefty when compared to the Jura machines that come in right at 20 pounds. The 17 by 13 by 18 inches size allows for everyone to have enough room for a high-quality coffee maker.

The Magnifica allows the brewer to choose between 1 and 2 cup mode, so this is an ideal set up for couples and households with many coffee drinkers. If you have roommates that spend a lot on fancy drinks at the barista, then this machine might be worth adding to your household.

The bur grinder that is built into the Magnifica even goes so far as to allow you to choose what level of grind you want so you can create a coffee that is made to your exact tastes and preferences. If someone else in your home likes their coffee a different way, then they can easily change the settings with the touch of a few buttons. In he battle of Delonghi vs. Jura, this model does put up a bit of a fight and comes in at slightly more in cost than the Jura Ena 1.

Our Verdict

This machine seems to overall satisfy customers, but some say over time that they have experienced leaks. This is concerning, but there are a lot of other factors that may cause a leak that goes beyond what the manufacturer can control. This is usually fixed by a new seal which is easy to get.
On a positive note, the Magnficia has a great capacity that means you are not going to have to be waiting in line at your home to get your coffee in the morning.

This Magnifica will save any coffee consumer a lot of money over the years. The all in one aspect of this machine is desirable, and when you consider that you are getting a great quality burr grinder and a generous bean storage capacity in a compact model, the Magnifica is a coffee machine worth giving a try.

Jura vs. Delonghi: The Verdict Is In. Winner is the Jura Ena 1. Click here to see it.

When all factors are considered, Jura seems to offer a higher level of customer satisfaction and range of features offered. DeLonghi purchasers seem to have mixed feelings about the quality of the overall machines. Some of this can be attributed to varying locations of manufacture. All Jura machines are made in Portugal with high and consistent standards.

The Jura Ena 1 is ideal for those that want the best coffee in a small space and have no regular desire for frothy coffee drinks. Being cheaper than the Ena 9 it is a good bargain for the price and level of convenience it offers. While the Ena 9 is considerably more pricey but it does offer a lot of features that just require the touch of a button and it has a built in frother so you can experience a wider range of drink choices!

So although DeLonghi machines are known to suit the needs of a lot of people very well and some machines cost much less than Jura machines, we choose Jura for overall quality and ease of use.
